Executive Spotlight Of An Experienced CEO And Leader, Greg Blatt
In a Business Matter’s article entitled, “Profile: Greg Blatt: Modern CEO, Leader, & Professional Thinker”, Blatt shared how he recognized the innate importance of remaining driven by his professional assignments, and has actively sought positions that would be rewarding on a professional, and personal level.
In what proved to be a real learning experience, Blatt was asked to become the president of E-Commerce at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia. Blatt’s goal was to bring about a positive change at the company by holding important positions, such as executive vice president of Consumer Products, after the enormous financial losses the company was suffering.
He is the former CEO of IAC. This conglomerate has grown to more than 800 million users with companies such as Tinder, OkCupid, Vimeo, and Ticketmaster. Most notably, he’s the founder and longtime head of the dating site, Match.com. Blatt has spent a large part of his career with IAC, which owns many popular sites. In 1985, he graduated from Dartmouth College and received his J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1989.
The pinnacle of his career was arguably the 12-year tenure as CEO of Match.com, but in 2015, he stepped down after selling the business to IAC. In terms of his career path, Blatt’s career has been remarkably unconventional. He initially earned a position as an entertainment lawyer at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom in Hollywood.
Aside from running his startup back in 1997, Greg Blatt has spent the past decade as IAC’s General Counsel and Chief Legal Officer. His tenure at IAC has also spanned as CEO of the portfolio company Ask.com, and he has helped build brands such as Vimeo, About.com, Ask.com, Dictionary.com, Investopedia, Match.com, Match.com, and OkCupid.com.
In 2014, Greg Blatt decided to step away from the helm of IAC, as he was ready to pass to the next generation of management. A parting executive announcement how he appreciates the support of John and Barry, and his colleagues in the leadership team and the Board, as he decided to take a step back to support and mentor future leaders.
While working at IAC, Blatt helped take the company public and led the sales and marketing teams that changed the Internet into a channel-agnostic marketplace. In addition, he spearheaded the development of multiple internet products and founded the IAC Online division, which transformed the company from a generic search engine to a lifestyle brand. Blatt has shown commitment and an uncanny ability to blend technology and culture throughout his career and has led IAC to heights unheard of in the business world.
